For criminals, humans are just another commodity that can be traded for financial gain. Human trafficking is the world’s third most lucrative crime after drugs and arms trafficking, generating around USD 150 billion globally in profits every year, with an estimated 40 million people worldwide living in modern slavery today.
This briefing note examines the increasing involvement of transnational organised criminal activities in the practice in light of the UK’s recently-released national Anti-Slavery Digital Learning.
